Die Ereignisse auf dem Tiananmen Platz in Peking waren ein Aufschrei, der laut gehört wurde. Die Presse und alle politischen Lager reagierten.... Es ist die Aufgabe des Künstlers den Menschen zu sehen – die Hoffnung, das Scheitern, den Humor und die Poesie. Den Aufschrei gibt es überall – und manchmal ist er sehr leise! CHINA ist eine Performance, die innere Bilder in Bewegung setzt – im chinesischen Kleid. Idee, Konzept, Installation, Stimme, Tanz: Susanne Helmes Video "Chinagirl" (1999): Roland Kerstein, Echo Ho Yinsan Erstaufführung der Performance im Juni 1989, zwei Wochen nach dem Massaker am Tiananmen Platz. Im Anschluß daran wurde das Stück ca.50 mal präsentiert – in unterschiedlichen Räumlichkeiten als auch unter freiem Himmel. Im Jahr 1999 wurde die Performance aus gegebenem Anlaß wiederaufgenommen, teilweise aktualisiert und ergänzt mit dem VideoClip "Chinagirl" von Echo Ho Yinsan, einer jungen Cinesin, die als 12jährige den Aufstand erlebt hat. CHINA gehört bis heute zum Repertoire und ist darüber hinaus auch als Installation, Dokumentation und Ausstellung zu sehen. English: All over the world, people are killed by tanks or gunfire if they follow their desire for freedom and against political oppression. The massacre that occurred at Tiananmen Square in Beijing has been a shout that was heard loudly. The media and all political sides showed reaction. It is the task of the artist to see the human being – The hope, the failing, the humour and the poetry. The shout is everywhere – and sometimes it is very silent! CHINA is a Performance that moves inner images – in a chineese costume. Idea, concept, set, voice and dance: Susanne Helmes Video "Chinagirl” (1999): Roland Kerstein, Echo Ho Yinsan The Performance opened first in June 1989, two weeks after the actual occurrence in Beijing. It was performed more than 50 times in different locations – inside and outside. In 1999, according to the 10th anniversary of the massacre, it was redone and partly actualised by a an epilogue: the videoclip "Chinagirl” by Echo Ho Yinsan, a young chineese woman who witnessed the demonstration as a 12 year old girl. CHINA is still part of the repertory and is shown also as an Exhibition and Installation.
